The Empress of China

“The harem is a grand stage.  Everything you see is just an act. No one can be exempted. You can only go all out and put up your best show. Don’t mind what’s ahead as long as you’ll have no regrets in the end.” – Honorable Wei (The Empress of China)

Up to ep 28 The Empress of China is still quite a fun ride for me. I know I’m extremely slow. Few months ago I said I was at 20ish ep, and now I’m only at ep 28. A little bit about it though, drama was frustrating and not logical at some points. But the costumes were so beautiful. Fan Bing Bing looked like a goddess in literally every scene. Some side actors/actresses did overact once in a while and it’s annoying but still bearable for me.

Beside those, The Empress of China was also full of wise quotes especially from Honorable Wei. The above quote from him hit me hard. Now, let me share my interpretation of his quote.

“The harem is a grand stage. …

Means the world. Our daily lives. It’s like a play. We’re on a play together. We’re the actors. There’s the main actor but the main won’t forever be the main. The supporting actors can snatch his place anytime. This interpretation fits the next line of the quote perfectly.

… Everything you see is just an act. No one can be exempted. You can only go all out and put up your best show. …

The lines can also be interpreted that in this harsh world we gotta be in our tip toe condition 24/7. Smile even if it’s hard. Pretend to be ok even if it’s not. Be caution of what others see and think of you because again, main actor won’t always be the main.

It actually kinda fit well with us especially if you’re working in a very competitive working field. Everyone wants to be noticed by their superior hoping they’ll be promoted asap. Sometimes people do dirty tricks you know, like saying bad things about (e.g) A to A’s superior or even the extreme way, mess up A’s work. I’ve heard many kind of stories already.

… Don’t mind what’s ahead as long as you’ll have no regrets in the end.”

Be bold! Stand up for yourself. Be brave! Be optimistic. Only good things will come to you if you’re keeping this mindset.

Lastly, it’s hard being a human, right? But don’t forget to always be grateful for whatever you have and always give back to the people and environment. Keep your head up guys!

Ps, I’m leaving these here -Fan Bing Bing, the goddess.
